I heard that you are planning to get a garden started in your new home. So, here's some of my own take on how to get that done.

First, you must get rid of all the weeds in your garden as these plants will kill the good ones. Dig them out and also choose a place where there's good soil. Good soil will ensure your plants get the best treatment.

And then, you also have to choose what plants you want, while also focusing on the type of pots required. Different plants need different pots. Also, if you're working on planting on the ground itself and not on a pot, then make sure the flowerbeds are regularly weeded.

And most important of all, use fertilizers now and then, though not daily. And also make sure to water your plants daily or they will not grow as they should be.

On March 10, 1876, Alexander Graham Bell spoke nine words that heralded our modern age of rapid long-distance communication. "Mr. Watson -- come here -- I want to see you." And then, as soon as he spoke the words, they were gone.

This was a time before recorded sound was common, and any momentous series of sound waves were preserved only in memory and text. When you think of Kennedy imploring Americans to ask what they can do for their country, you can hear his voice -- its cadences, its timbre -- in your head. But for the greatest spoken words of the 19th century (or any time preceding), we've got to use our imaginations. Humphrey Davy invented the safety-lamp that helped protect miners from the perils of flammable fire-damp1.

Explosions of coal-gas were only too common in the mines of England, leading to detrimental effects on those who labored underground. The biggest mine-owners met to see whether some protection against such accidents could not be devised. After much discussion, they appointed a committee to call on Sir Humphrey Davy and asked him to investigate the possibilities for them.

He took up the question, experimented with fire-damp, and found that it was in reality light carburetted hydrogen. He visited many mines and took into careful consideration the conditions under which the men worked. For months he investigated and experimented, and in 1815, he constructed the safety-lamp. This was an oil lamp, which had a chimney or cage of wire gauze that kept the flame of the lamp from passing through and igniting the fire-damp outside.
